opening August, 1, 2011, at the Astronomical Institute, University of Bern, Switzerland (http://www.aiub.unibe.ch). Candidates should have a strong research record in fundamental astronomy, e.g., space geodesy and astrodynamics. Current research activities of the institute include space geodesy using GNSS and satellite laser ranging, gravity field determination and optical surveys for natural and artificial bodies in the solar system. The institute develops and operates the Zimmerwald Observatory. The successful candidate is expected to direct the institute’s research activities, to attract external funding, and to actively participate in the teaching and supervision of Bachelor and Master students, as well as Ph.D. students.

The University of Bern particularly encourages women to apply for this position.

Feller, Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Bern, Sidlerstrasse 5. CH-3012 Bern, Switzerland, by 31 March 2010.

Workshop on RayTracing for Space Geodetic Techniques

April 29-30, 2010, Vienna, Austria

Call for contributions

In recent years, raytracing through numerical weather models has become more and more important for the analysis of space geodetic techniques, like the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry), DORIS (Doppler Orbitography by Radiopositioning Integrated on Satellite) at radio wavelengths or SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging) at optical frequencies, but also for remote sensing techniques like InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar). This workshop is devoted to technical and physical details of raytracing, to the development of models from the raytraced delays, and to their application in the analysis of space geodetic observations.

Preliminary list of sessions (29 April 2010, 9:00 30 April 2010, 15:00):

Session 1: Technical and physical details of raytracing and numerical weather models

Session 2: Models derived from raytraced delays

Session 3: Analysis of space geodetic observations with raytraced delays

Participants are asked to send an email with name and affiliation (and ev. title of presentation) to johannes.boehm@tuwien.ac.at before 15 March 2010. The registration fee of 70 Euro (to be paid in cash onsite) will cover lunches and coffee breaks on both days.

Organisation: Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Vienna University of Technology

Location: Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Vienna University of Technology, Gußhausstraße 27-29, 1040 Vienna, Austria
