2010-07-22 North American Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters Longmont, Colorado, USA from October |
The goal of this comparison is multi-fold: First, to test the capabilities of the newly refurbished Table Mountain Geophysical Observatory (TMGO) of the United States' National Geodetic Survey (NGS).
Second, to attempt to bring together for comparison every operational absolute gravimeter in North America. Finally, to strengthen contacts amongst the various organizations operating an absolute gravimeter on the continent. The protocol will be for each gravimeter to measure on three different marks on three different days, with data analyzed within two weeks. All data will be available to interested parties, and a publication describing the event and results will be prepared in early 2011. Should this event prove to be successful, NGS will engage the greater absolute gravimeter community with a proposal to regularly host comparisons of a more international nature. Questions or comments should be submitted to Mr. David Schmerge of the National Geodetic Survey at david.schmerge@noaa.gov. | |
