The Faculty of
Science and Engineering, York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada is
seeking applications for one tenure-track professorial stream position
in Geomatics Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates who have
achieved excellence in research areas that complement the ongoing
research activity at York University. Geomatics Engineering and Earth
Science research is carried out within the Department of Earth and Space
Science and Engineering (www.yorku.ca/esse). Current research includes
remote sensing of Earth’s surface and atmosphere from space, development of
technology for lidar and spectroscopic techniques in remote sensing,
synthetic aperture radar, space geodesy and geodynamics, positioning
and navigation, geological applications of Geographical Information
Systems (GIS) and the development of new GIS techniques.
Applications
for an Assistant Professor appointment are invited from candidates with
expertise in one of the following specializations: Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) with emphasis on, e.g., web-based 3D and 4D GIS,
sensor web, participatory GIS, mobile GIS and location-based services
and data visualization; or geodynamics and/or geophysics with a focus on
airborne and satellite-based applications.
The candidate
must hold earned undergraduate and PhD degrees in Engineering, or a closely
related discipline. The successful candidate shall demonstrate commitment to
the engineering profession by being licensed as a Professional
Engineer, or by becoming licensed soon after appointment. The successful
candidate will be expected to develop strong, externally funded research
programs, and contribute to teaching Engineering courses at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate should be
eligible for appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. This position is
to commence July 1, 2008, and is subject to budgetary approval.

The International Lithosphere Program (ILP)
Regional Co-ordination Committee DynaQlim (Upper Mantle Dynamics and Quaternary
Climate in Cratonic Areas) invites scientists and experts to participate the
First DynaQlim Meeting to be held February 4-5, 2008 in Geological Survey of
Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), Copenhagen, Denmark.
DynaQlim is an
inter-disciplinary project for studying the relationship between Glacial
Isostatic Adjustment (GIA), upper mantle structure, dynamics and Quaternary
climate. It integrates existing data and models from a variety of disciplines
that consider processes over a range of spatial and temporal scales relating to
the Quaternary evolution of cratonic regions.
In the First
meeting of DynaQlim there will be short presentations by participants, and
discussion and agreement on the formal arrangement of the DynaQlim, and its
future programme.
We have a plan
to publish a proceedings volume (or alternatively, a special volume in a
periodicals).
